Welcome

Our Sixth Form Centre provides a welcoming and positive environment in which students can fulfil their potential, develop as people and prepare for higher education and the world beyond.

On entry to Year 12, each student has his/her own personal tutor who is available for advice about academic work and application for higher education, training or employment.  The tutor is always willing to listen to and support any member of his/her tutor group who wishes to talk, in confidence, to a sympathetic adult.

Responsibility and Freedom

The Sixth Form years serve as a bridge between school and adult life. We encourage our students to learn to take responsibility, both in college and in the wider community.

We have established very strong links with Willow Burn Hospice and students take part in a volunteer programme at the hospice throughout the year.  The Sixth Form also support ‘The Lupus Appeal ‘(in memory of Heather Thompson, a former student), Joe Plumb’s ‘Mission in Peru’, and Cafod.

Students are given many opportunities to travel to, and provide practical and financial support for, a variety of communities across the world, e.g. World Challenge Africa (2012); Joe Plumb’s Mission, Peru (2013); Orphanage in Nepal (2013); World Challenge 2014 in Sri Lanka and World Challenge in Costa Rica in 2015, Madagascar 2017, Malaysia and Borneo 2019 and currently planning towards our next expedition in 2021.

In St. Bede’s Sixth Form a sensible degree of freedom is awarded to students in the expectation that they respond with maturity.  We foster individual autonomy, encourage adult attitudes and recognise the importance of the responsibilities undertaken by Sixth Form students. test
