What's your next Step?

To support our students, parents and carers with Post 18 transitions we hosted a "What's your next Step?" event in school. Local universities, college university centres, training & apprenticeship providers and support organisations such as JobCentre + joined us to explain the options at the end of Year 13. After an introduction from Mr McCarthy, Director of 6th Form, Miss Purvis, Head of Year 12, outlined the key dates/deadlines in Year 13. Durham University provided an overview of student finance and the ASK team from the National Apprenticeship Service highlighted higher and degree apprenticeship opportunities. We also signposted scholarship, bursary and grant funding available to students through universities, charities and government/NHS as well as the Disability Support allowance (DSA).

We were also joined by The Bishop Wilkinson Trust - Centre for Teacher Training. They were able to explain our opportunities for initial teacher training .Our School Direct pathways allow trainees to work alongside outstanding practitioners from a range of primary & secondary schools across the North East. https://www.centreforteaching.com/initial-teacher-training/overview/ Parents/carers and students then had the opportunity to visit stands and discuss possible opportunities with our visitors
