On Saturday 24th March three students from St. Bede’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College, Lanchester travelled to Belfast to represent St. Bede’s in the National Schools Trampoline Finals in the Under 14 Elite category. Holly Robinson of Belle Vue Trampoline Club and part of the Great Britain Development Squad, qualified individually in 1st place in both of the previous rounds of the competition. Holly, along with Molly O’Halloran of Apollo Trampoline Club and Jasmine Wright of Belle Vue Trampoline Club, placed first in both rounds of the team Under 14 Elite competition.
After the long journey to Belfast on Friday, the team attended training at the competition venue to practise their routines and familiarise themselves with the surroundings. During the competition, each performer completes one ‘set’ routine which is a standard routine based upon the level of performance; the second routine or the ‘voluntary’ routine can be created by the individual performer with a ‘points tariff’ which calculates the difficulty of the routine. The tariff of the routine is then added to the execution marks given by five judges to give the final score. For the team event, the scores from each of the performers set and voluntary routines are added together to give the final team score.
First to compete were Molly and Jasmine who each performed two fantastic set and voluntary routines, scoring totals of 56.00 and 55.20 respectively, placing them 5th and 8th individually. Holly Robinson was third to compete and scored an amazing 59.60 in her routines, placing 1st.The girls placed 1st in the team competition with a final score of 170.80. Not only was this the winning score but was the highest team score of the entire competition, a truly amazing achievement!
The girls are a credit to themselves, their families and to St. Bede’s with their hardworking and committed attitude to their training and performance. We are all extremely proud of their achievements and we hope that they enjoy their time as National Champions!
