Sleepover at Durham Cathedral

October 16, 2017

On Friday 13th October, 21 students, ranging from Year 7 to Year 13, took part in a charity sleepover at Durham Cathedral. The De Paul Charity works to combat youth homelessness. One of the most important ways they do this is through a volunteer host scheme, called Nightspot, that gives vulnerable young people a bed for the night.

Students arrived at 8pm, set up camp and had a very fun and educational experience, through talks, film and music. Above all, they got to empathise with how a young person may feel sleeping rough. The vast surroundings of Durham Cathedral allowed students to really feel what it is like to be vulnerable and exposed to the elements. A rough nights sleep but a lifelong, memorable experience.

Students have been raising money in school and the total combined on the evening, with all the other participants was £10,000. De Paul are aiming to raise another £3000.

To donate to this charity, you can text DPUK01 plus any amount between £1 and £30 to 70070. Please let us know in the comments below if you make a donation so our young people know they have made a difference!
