St Bede’s Sixth Form students run for charity

March 31, 2017

On 21st May 2016, 12 Ward took part in the Newcastle Colour Obstacle Rush, with the aim of raising money for Willow Burn Hospice and Macmillan Nurses in memory of Mr Batty. The annual event is a fun five kilometre run/walk where participants navigate a number of giant inflatable obstacles, challenges and colour stations. The intrepid form class met outside of the racecourse on the day and proceeded to the register desks to pick up their t-shirts, sunglasses and bandannas. The warm up was directed by DJs from Capital Radio after which they set off. The weather held and at the end of the run they were all elated and covered from head to foot in luminous paint! Everyone had a fantastic time and the team spirit was exceptional.

Following their success in the Colour Run the members of what is now 13 Ward decided to compete in the annual Santa Run at Hardwick Park.  This took place on the first Sunday of advent 2016 and all of the competitors were decked out in full Santa suits including beards.  The most surreal sight is to look back at the start line to see hundreds of Santas all lined up ready for the off.   A great team spirit yet again, not only during the run but also during the fundraising prior to it, enabled the group to raise another fantastic amount, this time for the Henry Dancer Days charity.

13 Ward have continued their fundraising throughout Lent 2017 by selling raffle tickets for two Easter egg hampers which they had specially made up.

In total during their time in Sixth Form the students of 13 Ward have raised over £1500 for their chosen charities.  Their fantastic community effort has recently been recognised by the Rotary Club who presented the students with an award in acknowledgement of special service. WELL DONE!
