Year 12 Careers Convention
During the Year 12 Careers Convention, which takes place in July, in college, Year 12 students attended a series of presentations, talks and workshops on higher education and careers. The convention is designed to encourage students to think seriously about their future and to engage in in-depth research. Apart from presentations from a representative from Durham university, a fascinating glimpse into the jobs of the future from Stella Barnes of Queen Elizabeth College and a carefully structured day of career related, students are able to choose 3 subject talks from more than 25 offered to them by local institutions of higher education and further education as well as officers from the local police. Students are given specific information about various higher education courses and career routes, and have the opportunity to ask questions. To round off the 2 day conference, we invited past students of St. Bede’s, who are currently at university or have just graduated, to come into college to talk to Year 12 students about what it is really like at university!
The convention is always a great success and feedback from the students, both verbal and written, is extremely positive. They really enter into the spirit of the event and make the most of every experience! We also encourage students and their parents to explore our newly launched school website which includes comprehensive web links to information regarding higher education, work experience and careers. Deciding what to do after leaving St. Bede’s is now a far less daunting prospect!
